Morrison's Academy
Morrison's Academy are trying to develop rugby in the Crieff and Strathearn area in partnership with the local rugby club, Crieff High School and surrounding Primary Schools. We are looking to employ a Rugby Development Officer in the area to generate interest and support in the game by delivering regular sessions in Primary and Secondary schools.
The area we are focusing on encompasses 12 Primary Schools and will eventually include Auchterarder High School as well as Crieff High school and Morrison’s Academy. Any new players would then feed into the rugby club (at primary age) and the schools SRU conference set up (at secondary age). All of this would generate more players playing rugby after they leave school which would strengthen the local rugby club as well as future destinations around Scotland.
The position would be based at and supported by Morrison’s Academy (given the level of resource available including accommodation) and the SRU. We feel there is an opportunity to greatly increase the playing numbers in this area and it could be done very successfully by developing the informal partnership already in place between the two schools and the rugby club.
Morrison’s Academy have recognised the requirement for a collaborative approach yet also leadership to provide direct action and a sense of urgency before the game disappears in West Perthshire.
Rugby player numbers in the Crieff and Strathearn area are not strong. Crieff High School is not able to deliver rugby to their pupils. Primary pupils do not have a rugby experience within school time. There is a real need to support the local youngsters in the state system. The rugby club work hard to develop the primary age players that attend Sunday morning sessions but don’t have players or coaches to run U13-U18 teams. As a result the senior rugby club no longer have a pipeline for local players and are struggling to field a senior team on a regular basis. It is vital for rugby in this area that we work together to make it more sustainable and provide strong rugby opportunities to train and play.
