Banff RFC
In our community of the North-East of Scotland, football for kids dominates. However, not all kids fit in or enjoy taking part in football. Banff Rugby Football Club has been established since 1978 and offers children aged 4-18 an opportunity to take part in an alternative team sport with different ethos, values and culture.
In the past year, Banff RFC Mini & Micro and youth sections have all increased in numbers. The Mini & Micro section have nearly doubled their numbers from 38 to 65 regular players and the Under 13’s now have a full team. We attribute this outstanding increase to having a Community Rugby Development Coach. This Coach approached local schools and did rugby sessions so the children could experience it and learn about the sport and the club.
Unfortunately this Coach was offered his dream job at SRU and we wish him well with his new position but Banff RFC does not want to lose this momentum.
Having a Community Rugby Development Coach is not only providing Banff RFC with another highly skilled coach, but it will also provide over 2000 children within the local area the opportunity to be part of a different sport, be part of a rugby community and to develop life long skills.
Currently Banff RFC is eligible for £7500 funding from the SRU to fund the salary of a Community Coach, which we are required to match fund. Banff RFC is making strenuous efforts to fundraise this, however with increasing costs we are concerned that we would struggle to fulfil this requirement.
The generous donation made by the Friends of Scottish Rugby to Banff RFC has made a significant dent in our fundraising total and we look forward to having a new Community Coach and growing rugby in our local community.
