Oban Lorne RFC Men’s 1st XV have been invited to represent Scotland in the inaugural Amateur Rugby World Cup which is being held in France in September 2023.

Oban Lorne are is a small rural club but we are passionate about Rugby and one of the main reasons we were keen to take advantage of this opportunity is the ethos of the event – to celebrate true amateur Rugby and the brotherhood of the Sport we all love.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our grass roots, rural club to play on the World Stage. A truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. However, there are considerable costs for such an event and we are embarking on various fundraising events, seeking sponsorship for players, hosting events and applications for support locally and nationally. We have been granted touring permission from the Scottish Rugby Union; but there is no central funding available as the SRU treat this project the same as any other tour.

We firmly believe that by participating in this event that we can set a standard for our ever growing youth players to aspire to and also help to promote Rugby in the Oban area and grow the playing numbers.

We are grateful to Friends of Scottish Rugby for their support and we know that this will help us not only to participate in France but also ensure there is a positive legacy for all of our youth players to aspire to.
